A Tribute to the late UdiAlan Shavarsh Bardezbanian with Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble and Jamileh Middle Eastern music and dance.
Founding members of Okbari, Eric LaPerna and Amos Libby have been keeping the Middle Eastern music tradition they inherited from their teacher, Udi Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian very much alive since his untimely passing in 2006. For this concert they will be joined by bandmate, Duncan Hardy {qanun}, another student and friend of Al’s, Tom Kovacevic {nay}, Maria Wagner {clarinet}, Sarah Mueller {violin}, and one of Maine’s most celebrated belly dancers, Jamileh Jeanne Handy, who worked with Al many times over the years and was also a close friend. Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble and Friends will be playing all of the classic tunes off his three CD’s; From Kef to Classical Volumes 1-3, as well as some of his timeless, original compositions.

• Saturday, September 13th, 8:00pm at Mayo Street Arts, Tickets $12 in advance/$15 at the door; Students $7 in advance/$8 at the door. Advance Tickets Here
